You get to the payment step, press pay, wait a few seconds, and checkout comes back saying your bank could not verify this card (3-D Secure), with a suggestion to try again, use a different card, or pay with crypto. Some wordings mention re-entering your card details instead. The order does not complete. People often see this even when the card works elsewhere, and sometimes on several different cards and banks in a row.
Why this happens
Every card payment at our checkout requires 3-D Secure, a quick identity check run by your bank. It is sometimes shown as Verified by Visa or Mastercard Identity Check. After you press pay, a verification window from your bank opens on the checkout page. If that window is closed, blocked, or never completed, the payment is refused and checkout shows the 3-D Secure error.
How to fix it
- Keep the bank verification window open and finish it. Approve the prompt in your banking app, or enter the one-time code your bank sends you.
- If no verification window appears, or the page seems stuck, refresh the page and start checkout again. A fresh attempt clears most cases, especially if the checkout tab had been sitting open for a while.
- Turn off ad blockers, script blockers, or strict privacy modes for our site, or try a different browser. These can stop the bank verification window from loading.
- Check your banking app for a pending approval request. Some banks wait silently for you to approve the payment there.
- If you are on a VPN, disable it during checkout and try the payment again.
- If the check keeps failing, contact your bank and ask them to enable online payments and 3-D Secure for your card, or try a different card.
- Pay with crypto instead. Crypto payments do not use 3-D Secure. Checkout takes Bitcoin and Litecoin, and if you are new to it our guide to buying crypto walks you through the process.
If you would rather pay some other way, open a Pay Another Way ticket in our Discord. Verified staff will explain the options available to you. If you hold a cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin or Litecoin, exchange it for one of those first, or use the same ticket.
Which products this applies to
All of them. 3-D Secure is a checkout step, not a product setting, so it applies to every card payment in the store regardless of what is in your basket. In support conversations it comes up most often on the Rainbow Six Siege products, Inferno and Frost, but that reflects what people buy rather than anything specific to those listings.
Worked through all of the above and it still will not go through? Contact support on live chat with the product name, the exact error text, and the steps you have already tried, and we will pick it up from there.
